Wes Sauer is a native of eastern Washington, where he grew to admire the diversity of landscapes. The natural beauty of desert, river valleys, orchards, mountains, and alpine lakes inspired him to be a visual person. He moved to western Washington in 1983 to study photography and design at the Art Institute of Seattle. He holds a BA in Geography from the University of Washington. His photography is an expression of a life lived in the Pacific Northwest, but it is informed by study of geography. His interests include landscape, street photography and photojournalism. His inspirations include the traditional heroes of photography, and modern masters. He currently lives in Seattle with his wife, son and daughter.
